RUE Network…road user education in action

The RUE Network is a national network of organisations committed to delivering one or more aspects of road user education or other vocational activities.. What is Road user education?

The Network is open to projects/initiatives offering services or providing one or more of the following activities:

  • automotive industry preparation or other vocational skills;
  • challenging motor vehicle related offending;
  • driver/rider training/education;
  • engineering/mechanical training;
  • motor vehicle interest groups;
  • automotive sport;
  • road safety education.

Concept and structure
The RUE Network grew from the desire to share and replicate the experience gained over many years of contact with motor based projects around the UK. The Network’s mission is to advance the work of alternative education providers by providing fundraising support, facilitating the sharing of good practice and the promotion of quality standards. The Network has been established for projects/organisations who concern themselves with using motor vehicles as a medium for wider learning, but recognises that such projects may also use other mediums to achieve a rounded education programme. For example projects may also use their resources to support young people in the development of Key and Basic Skills or to acquire other practical skills, such as those needed in the construction industry.

Aim
The aim of the RUE Network is to improve communication between road user education providers and, through collective working, provide an organisational framework that can support the continued development and sustainability of quality road user and safety education.

Objectives
To develop a UK organisational framework that provides a range of services for and on behalf of the Network, including:

  • advocacy, policy development and support, insurance cover etc;
  • automotive industry preparation;
  • share good practice;
  • maximise the impact of available funding.
