voluntary sector support - mission

RUE’s Director has worked with or in the voluntary youth work sector his full working life. He therefore has a good working knowledge of the sector and the many issues it faces.

RUE’s interest and commitment rests with ensuring that young people have the scope, choice and opportunity to access a rich and diverse range of services that will support them in achieving their educational, emotional and practical goals. Given this it believes that:

  • all young people have the potential to live active and fulfilling lives and that the education process should be primarily concerned with their empowerment, though the imparting of knowledge and the development of skills, through an opportunity to participate.
  • the accreditation or recognition of a young persons achievement is always desirable, but that it is not paramount to a young peoples ability to fulfil her/his potential.
  • in order to ensure the continuation of a vibrant and diverse voluntary youth work sector, such network needs ongoing support and real financial and emotional investment.

RUE is keen to work with organisations and individuals who need support in:

  • the development of quality youth work programmes/services, including business and strategic planning;
  • the development of training frameworks, resources and materials;
  • the formation of policy and partnership approaches to youth work;
  • delivering programmed work within small groups or on a one to one basis;
  • the development of youth work approaches to aid the support and services of foster care agencies

RUE’s Director, Graham Lloyd is Chair of a small Leicester based youth work Charity, Young People First

Transit Programme launch
“We need to support the development of the very high percentage of voluntary groups that provide excellent provision with a budget of less than £1000 per year and that survive because of the goodwill of dedicated volunteers.”
